10 Effects Of Road Accidents

As car accident attorneys, we know all too well that the effects of a car accident linger long after the accident has happened. It has a devastating effect on the victims, their lives, and their family members. Car Accident Related Statistics A study conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics reveals some shocking road accident statistics. In the U.S., a car accident occurs approximately every 13 minutes, equating to a whopping estimate of 6 million passenger car accidents; around 43,000 of these car crashes are fatal.   A brief overview of these statistics clearly indicates the immense impact road accidents have in several ways.  Let’s look at the most common effects road accidents have on accident victims and their families. Smoky skies over the Pacific Northwest will soon give way to rainy winter weather which is among the factors that experts say increase fatal crash risks for drivers. To prevent catastrophic crashes, drivers need to understand the factors influencing fatalities including where they occur and how to avoid them. Nine of the top 10 deadliest stretches of highway in Washington State are in the greater Seattle-Tacoma area according to a 2022 survey of federal data. Car accident statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration point out that two sections of SR-99 – Aurora Ave in Seattle and Pacific Highway between Des Moines, Tukwila, and Kent – have among the highest rates of fatalities per mile.     According to

Proper route planning helps truckers avoid disaster

I have been thinking a lot about route planning lately, as have many other Seattle residents and commuters. This kind of route planning is always a critical consideration for motor carriers and their commercial truck drivers. And I have seen what happens when they fail in their duty to consider and properly plan travel routes. Obviously, there are significant differences between a semi-truck and trailer and a passenger vehicle, namely size and weight. If you fail to plan an alternate route to work, you might get lost, or stuck in traffic. But when a semi-truck driver hauling a heavy trailer slams into a bridge, people get hurt. Route planning failure took out the Skagit River Bridge While moving an oversized

What made I-90 in Washington so dangerous for semi-trucks?

It was this I-90 crash, with five semi-trucks and three cars in a pile-up, that brought attention to an ongoing problem. Reportedly, a semi-truck jackknifed in the westbound lane of I-90. Another semi-truck driver lost control while trying to avoid a collision with the first truck, and ended up in the ditch on the opposite shoulder. As a semi pulling double trailers tried to go between the two semi-truck it struck two passenger cars. Then, two semi-trucks collided with each other as the truckers tried to get around the crash site. When the road is a factor in an I-90 crash Over the last year, there has been an unusually high number of crashes on that section of I-90 near Cle Elum,

A surprising fact about fatal truck crashes in new FMCSA report

This week, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration released their Large Truck and Bus Crash Facts for 2016. The annual report is compiled from state-collected data and analyzed by FMCSA. There are many interesting facts in this year’s report, but one particular fact stands out to me. More than 60 percent of all fatal truck crashes happened in rural areas. Fatal crashes involving large trucks tend to occur in rural areas, and on Interstate highways. You would think that cities like Seattle that have a lot of highway traffic would account for the majority fatal truck crashes, just because of the higher population. More people + more trucks should = more crashes. But looking back over FMCSA statistics, rural areas have always had far more
